Obituary of Ms. Mary Bethea Hines
Mary Bethea Hines of Columbia, South Carolina departed this life at the tender age of 61 on
October 12, 2022.
She was born in Dillon, South Carolina on January 27th, 1961 to Willie B. and Treathea Evans
Bethea. Mary joined Millers Chapel Church at an early age. She was a graduate of Dillon, High
School class of 1979. She played on the community softball team known as the Newtown
Angels. Mary retired from Phillip Morris in Richmond, VA January 1st, 2020.
Mary's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of Mary's life. The legacy of Mary’s
kind spirit, passion for sports, love of travel and zest for life will live on through them. Mary
enjoyed life, family members, and many friends. Mary was always there to brighten the lives of
others. It was often said that there wasn’t a stranger that Mary didn’t know. Mary was adored
and loved by all who knew her. Mary will be missed by all that were lucky enough to have
known her.
She is preceded in death by her father Willie B Bethea and Grand parents Mary Jane Bethea
and John and Tressa Evans.
She leaves to cherish fond memories with her mother Treathea Bethea of Effingham SC; three
children. Mario Hines of Charlotte North Carolina, Kahj Kensen of Los Angeles California and
Khiarrra Hines of Richmond Virginia; Three grandchildren Kimari Hines, Kaidynce Hines and
Yamiah Hines; One brother: Larry (Apostle Sandra) Evans of Dillon, South Carolina; Four
sisters : Cecelia (Ray) Bethea of Dillon, SC, Terry Bethea of Columbia South Carolina, Rena
Bethea of Fort Mills South Carolina, Delores Bethea of Effingham South Carolina;. Thirteen
Sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; A godson Maxon Nix Columbia, South Carolina; Two
special sons Johnathan Wade of Charlotte, North Carolina and Raymond Stewart of Charlotte,
North Carolina; and a host of other family members (aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews,
friends and coworkers).
